Since children do not take up new habits quickly and children in rural schools still use chalk and slate, Savlon decided to come up with a creative solution of using soap infused chalks. The idea behind this is to push children to wash their hands with water after they get smeared with chalk powder.

Objective

Objective

The objective of the campaign was to introduce young children in rural India to the habit of washing hands with soap before meals with 3 Ws.

Write: Write on any black slate with Savlon Chalk Stick

Wipe: Alter done writing, use your palm to wipe the writing

Write: Rinse the chalk dust from your hand using water.

This is how Savlon does it

To execute the Healthy Hands Chalk Sticks initiative, Savlon identified 100 rural schools across India and provided these special chalk sticks to 150,000 students for free. Owing to a great response and demand from schools and NGOs across the country, distribution models were set in place for NGOs whose requirements exceeded over 50,000 boxes. Once implemented in 100 schools, this innovation was released as an online video to start a conversation about the importance of hand hygiene in children. The campaign not only reached out to over 40 cities across the country, but it has also been the most awarded Indian campaign at the recently concluded Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
